“To be a champion, compete; to be a great champion, compete with the best; but to be the greatest champion, compete with yourself.”
― Matshona Dhliwayo
Taking a chance on ourselves and putting ourselves at the forefront in a vulnerable way can be overwhelming and challenging. However, the rewards, impact, and change we can make in pursuing our dreams far exceeds the struggles. Competing at any level takes strength and who understands strength better than women. We wanted to know how women compete, so we asked a diverse group of ladies from various backgrounds, ages, and professions to share. Here’s what we learned:
9 Ways Women Compete:
- Developing the skills needed to do our best
- Equipping themselves with knowledge.
- Understanding the goal or objective and creating a well-thought-out plan
- Educate themselves through reading and research.
- Putting themselves out there (being vulnerable) to attempt to achieve a goal or get a certain result.
- Deliberately putting themselves in situations that will make them better people.
- Bringing their best self without complaint.
- Growing in areas where they feel weaker.
- Setting personal and professional goals.
- Reading and actualizing their dreams and setting a strategy.
Overall, women value knowledge, spend time educating themselves, set personal and professional goals, and develop strategies for moving forward in order to compete effectively.
