On and off the court, things are not always guaranteed to stay the same. As much as we crave predictability and comfort, dealing with the unknown is most likely bound to happen, and many times it can catch us off guard. A lack of preparedness can leave us asking last minute questions like: “what do I do?” “what’s going on?” or “where do I go from here?” Here are four ways to adjust and reposition yourself when life throws you unexpected curveballs!

  1. Build several routines: Sometimes we get so comfortable in what has always worked for us that we rarely construct a routine for the rainy days. Open your mind up to developing different approaches for different scenarios so you don’t feel blindsided when things suddenly change.
  1. Embrace different possibilities: When you are resistant to a different outcome, you end up restricting your ability to adjust and live a flexible life. Don’t stand by and be reactionary; be an activator of change instead. Embrace the possibility of things panning out differently and watch your repositioning skills improve tremendously!
  1. Face your fears: It’s super uncomfortable not knowing where your next challenge will come from, or how swiftly things can change in tennis or in business. That said, you must strive to fight this discomfort by facing your fears head on. Nothing will be too big for you to carry once you’re confident in your power to face them.
  1. Ask for help: Adjusting and repositioning yourself can leave you with more questions than answers. Therefore, never be afraid to seek counsel from those around you. Asking for help is never a sign of weakness, but instead is proof that you’re mature enough to yearn for growth and stability in your life.
