The first step to competing at a higher level is making sure you’re ready to take action on opportunities. The way that looks in tennis is feet apart, on your toes, eyes ahead, and racquet up. This puts you in the right position to see whatever ball that might come your way and properly prepare for it.
If you’re not ready then you’ll usually find yourself scrambling to get to a ball that may be out of reach. Sound familiar? This happens frequently in business environments that put most of the focus on the aim and fire, with little to no focus on staying ready.
One of the first things I consider when working with organizations and businesses is their level of readiness. Readiness speaks to preparation, capacity and the ability to respond and stay ahead of competitors.
Have you assessed how ready you are? Here’s a quick drill: Take a look at your strategy along with your goals and objectives for the upcoming week. Do you have everything in place to take immediate action? If not, what specifically do you need to get yourself in the ready position to execute immediately?
How well you implement and execute is based on how ready you are.
